Gunung Gading National Park is home to the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia. The flower was discovered by the 19th century Italian botanist Odoardo Beccari.
The Rafflesia can grow up to one metre in diameter. When in bloom, the flower gives off a nasty smell which attracts flies and other insects. It takes 9 months to mature and flowers for only 4-5 days defore dying.
