| Sierra de la Ventana |
October 15, 2009
Sierra de la Ventana, a small village about 600Km south of Buenos Aires.
Warm weather nice people, a long and lovely walk, and then the evening a wonderful barbeque and a bottle of wine.
What a good start for our travel in Argentina! |
| Peninsula valdes |
October 19, 2009
A wonderful Natural Reserve with an extension of hundred of kilometers.
Le seashore of the Peninsula Valdes are covered by penguins, sea lions and sea elephants. From the beach is also possible to see the austral whales. An incredible view!
And in the evening, when the tourists to back to the town, the peninsula become silent and quite, and only the sound of the waves is heard. |
| Gaiman |
October 21, 2009
Gaiman, a small village south of Puerto Madryn, is famous as the first village built by Welsh immigrants. Also now it is possible to see old Welsh buildings.
As a perfect tradition, every 'Tea House' offer afternoon tea and cakes.
Actually, there is too much advertising built around Gaiman... a nice place but nothing so special to see... |
| Ushuaia |
October 26, 2009
Ushuaia is the capital of the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego. It is commonly regarded as the southernmost city in the world.
It is located in a wide bay on the southern coast of the island of Tierra del Fuego, bounded on the north by the Martial mountain range and on the south by the Beagle Channel. Ushuaia is only 1000km from Antartica.
Not to miss, the National Park "Tierra del Fuego", for the beautiful landscapes and views. |
| El Calafate and the PeritoMoreno |
October 31, 2009
The Perito Moreno Glacier, located in the Los Glaciares National Park ,is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia.
It is just impressive: it covers 250 squared meters, it is long 30km, and high 60 meters (outside the water).
Incredible is also the bright blue of the fallen ice... you could spend hours and hours just looking at it! |
| El Chalten and Fitz Roy |
November 05, 2009
The small village of El Chalten is the perfect destination for whoever loves trekking; many mountain paths, with the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre always there to see.
We have been lucky to see them both with the sun and with the snow: two different landscapes but both wonderful. |
| El Bolson |
November 13, 2009
El Bolson started as an hippies village in the '70, is now a quite village in the middle of mountains, rivers and lakes.
Some nice walks toward viewpoints, cajon, lakes and blue rivers are the must here.
The famous El Bolson's market is nothing special; just similar to thousands of Asian markets full of un-useful things. |
| Bariloche |
November 17, 2009
located in The Lake District, Bariloche is a lovely town with wonderful landscapes and view, small lakes surrounded by mountains. It is a pity we were there when the sky was cloudy and raining, to ruin the views.
We waited for a couple of days, and then we gave up... we left without seeing Bariloche under a blue sky. |
| Mendoza |
November 23, 2009
Mendoza City is nothing special, ma the surrounding are really nice.
A city park, where people do picnic, running and rest in the shadow. A zoo not well organized, with animals in small cages and not enough water.
And then, Maipù, where there are many 'Botegas' where you can taste the wine. And to finish, Cacheuta,, with its terms and water park with hot thermal waters. |
| Uspallata Valley and Aconcagua |
November 25, 2009
Uspallata Valley connects Mendoza with Chile, toward Santiago. The colurs of the mountains are spectacular: going from red, to green, to yellow... depending on the minerals. It is a pity the pictures do not give the true colurs and proportions.
And then, Puente del Inca, an old thermal spot with sulfuric waters, destroyed by an landslade.
And finally, the Aconcagua National Park, with its 6962 meters high is the highest mountain in South America. |
| La Carolina |
December 02, 2009
La Carolina, a small village of about 200 people, with small stone houses and stone roads, is a wonderful place to spend a couple of days resting, with silence and nature.
Old gold mines, lamas in the fields, and walks around the hills.
And for those who cannot stay without internet... La Carolina and all San Luis province provide Free Wifi Internet for everyone! |
| Sierra de Las Quijadas |
December 04, 2009
Nationa Park Sierra de Las Quijadas is famous for its arid landscape and its red mountains. Huge hills falling down to an empty landscape.
It is possible to see the Sierra from a viewpoint, or, with a park guide, start a trekking inside the Sierras, for hours and hours, under a strong sun.
A wonderful experience to walk inside this park, surrounded by nothing more than red hills, and burned by the sun; probably one of the best park of Argentina! |
| Barreal, Pampa del Leoncito |
December 07, 2009
About 300km from San Juan, near the village of Barreal, there is a strange landscape: the Pampa del Leoncito. Apparently there are only two places like this one (here and anothe rone in Africa), but it could be only advertising!
Pampa del Leoncito is a flat surface of sand dried by the sun, 3km large and 15km long, empty, dried, perfectly flat and smooth.
The eyes cannot see the end of the Pampa... it gives a lost sensation. Incredible! |
| San Juan |
December 08, 2009
The small city of San Juan, even without having many attactions, is a peaceful and quite place to spend a couple of days.
Many wineries surround the city, and many good bogedas are inside the city itself. Less famous than the ones in Mendoza, these wineries produce good quality wines and the bodegas offer good tasting and interesting tours inside the wineries. |
| San Agustin de Valle Fertil |
December 12, 2009
San Agustin de Valle Fertil, as the name says, a Fertil green area surrounded by desert, is the best place from where to start visiting the 'Valle de la Luna' (Moon Valley).
It is a pity most of the tourists, always running, do not stop here for a couple of days, to enjoy the quite and friendly village. We have also been very like and had the change to partecipate to a Gaucho Festival, with people coming from all the Province but without tourists. |
| Ischigualasto - Moon Valley |
December 14, 2009
Ischigualasto National Park, known as 'Moon Valley', is one of the most famous Nation Parks in Argentina, both for the strange rock formations and because here have been found fossils of the most ancient dinosaurs in the world. We are not speaking about big Spielberg dinosaurs, but small and ancient species.
After the rainy season, when erosion due to wind and water has changed the field, groups of scientists work on this park looking for other fossils hidden here since a long time. |
| Tafi del Valle |
December 24, 2009
A small mountain village, located at 2000 meters, Tafi del Valle is a vacation place for people living in the hot and humid Tucuman. Here there are many villas and second houses, and the village is full of people only in summer time. Nice streets, good restaurants, and many nice walks around the valley.
A small Gesuit museum, and a field with strange stones (Menhires) with important archeological value are the main attractions in the Valley, but the place is so quite you end up staying longer than you think. |
| Amaicha and Quilmes |
January 04, 2010
A day full of nice discoveries. The small village of Amaicha with an incredible museum, fruit of the strange mind of a local artist.
And the, the ruins of Quilmes Village, population killed by the Spanish conquerors. Today their name remain only as the label of an Argentinian beer. |
| Cafayate |
January 06, 2010
The small village of Cafayate, with its quite streets, the adobe houses, wineries and bodegas, give a special touch to the village.
But the most spectacular thing about this place it's the Quebrada, the road connecting Cafayate with Salta. A road stolen to the mountains, in a fairy landscape. Mountains with many different colors, strange rock formations, and wonderful trekkings in the middle of nothing, far from everything and everybody. |
| Tilcara |
January 08, 2010
Tilcara is a small village in the North of Argentina, in the Jujuy Province. Small streets, houses done with adobe and small local markets/, all this surrounded by strange mountains with lovely colors.
To visit a pre-inca fortress and a Garganta del Diablo, a deep canyon which can be reached by car or by a long but nice trekking. |
| Iruya, Humauaca and Purmamarca |
January 09, 2010
North fo Tilcara, reached only by an unpaved road, 3 hours of bus, and through a mountain pass of 4000 meters, there is the small village of Iruya. Impressive the road and landscape to reach it!
And,in the valley and easily reachable there is Humauaca and Purmamarca. The last one is advertised everywhere for its Seven Colors Hill... Nothing special! |
| Salinas Grandes |
January 11, 2010
A huge salt area many kilometers large o top of an highland at about 4000 meters.
A so strong white that your eyes burn and the shadow of the clouds on the salted water, make the landscape of Salinas Grandes, at the border between Argentina and Chile, a bit surreal and incredible. |
